Within the framework of Delitto e Decoro research the workshop aims at understanding the Roma working struggles while founding a new market operating in downtown Rome. As a means to critically play within the power structures associated with their hidden economy, objects from the last operating Roma reuse market are bought by the students, branded and resold for an higher prize in a central gentrified neighborhood and online.

THE ROMA REUSE INDUSTRY

For years a quiet and industrious army o waste pickers come into possession of an enormous amount of trowned away objects In ordert to transform the waste into reusable products. Despite the virtuosity of the industry, this hidden workers are unwelcomed as the objects they collect represent an uncanny overproduction removed and unwanted by society.

THE SYSTEMATIC CLOSURE OF ROMA MARKETS

After a decade of good practices of regularization of the reuse markets, the recollection of ferrous and bulk waste is likely to be sent into oblivion. Nowadays sales places and vending possibilities of the Roma community are phased out based on securitarian policies in the name of urban respectability.

THE NEW DIFFUSE MARKETS

The re-use activities made by the Roma Community reach such proportions that can hardly be hidden for long. It’s time to fi nd new forms of products’ distribution for those withdrawn from markets, towards the recocgnition of their value within our society; namely the role overproduction that has the potential to make the system idle. For this reason diff use aims at full recognition of production surplus, idle work and the object’s futility, declined use or obsolescence

All’interno della ricerca Delitto e Decoro il workshop si relaziona con le complicate dinamiche lavorative della comunità Rom, spesso osteggiate dal comune di Roma, attraverso la creazione di un mercato del riuso diffuso nel centro urbano gestito dagli studenti per conto della comunità Rom. Gli oggetti sono comprati, brandizzati e rivenduti sovrapprezzo nel centro storico e online.

LA FILIERA DEL RIUSO ROM

Da anni un silenzioso e laborioso esercito di raccoglitori entra in possesso di un’enorme quantità di beni usati, dirottandoli dal mondo del rifiuto a quello del riutilizzo. Nonostante il lavoro di produzione e di raccolta, questi oggetti rappresentano una sovrapproduzione rimossa ed indesiderata della nostra società.

CHIUSURA PROGRESSIVA DEI MERCATINI

Dopo un decennio di buone pratiche di regolarizzazione di mercatini del riuso, la raccolta di materiali ferrosi e rifiuti ingombranti rischia di finire definitivamente nel dimenticatoio. I luoghi e le possibilità di vendita della comunità sono progressivamente eliminati in base a principi securitari in nome del decoro.

I NUOVI MERCATI DIFFUSI

Le attività di riuso operate dalle Comunità rom hanno raggiunto un volume tale che non sarà possibile occultarle a lungo. È quindi sempre più necessario trovare nuove forme di diffusione dei prodotti attualmente sottratti al libero scambio, affinché Il riconoscimento della sovrapproduzione renda inoperoso il sistema stesso. Pertanto diffUSE riconosce il valore dell’eccedenza, dell’inutilità, dell’opera inoperosa, dell’uso rifiutato, inespresso, non progettato, superato e caduto in disuso.
