The house is on fire and the only ones laughing are the arsonists – laughing not at the flames but at have reduced the rest of us to horror-stricken acquiescence. Flipping the narrative, 𝘓𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐𝘴 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 is a real-time experiment in community-building based on repurposing laughter and architecture. Led by the Rome-based architectural collective -ATI, the initiative entails assembling a Destituent Laughing Choir, a community of laughers made up of any and all who are desirous to laugh together inappropriately. What if the performative speech acts of power were greeted by nothing but great peals of laughter?

In this atmosphere of destituent hilarity, the gallery space becomes a rehearsal studio for the choir in preparation for the collective joy of laughing publicly. Fed up with the arsonists monopolizing laughter while the house burns? Want to debunk the normalized seriousness of acts of instituted power? Join the Destituent Laughing Choir! All welcome! No previous laughing experience necessary!
